Mexico Treasury says no budget for CNTE pension overhaul

Mexico's Treasury (Hacienda) confirmed that there are no fiscal resources allocated to meet the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE)'s demand to repeal the 2007 ISSSTE law and return to a solidary pension system. Treasury Secretary Edgar Amador stated that the proposal would require spending equivalent to about 20 % of the country's GDP, a cost not included in the current budget or the programming for upcoming years.

The federal government, under President Claudia Sheinbaum, reaffirmed that the budget does not contemplate financing the CNTE's primary demand, emphasizing that the fiscal impact falls outside approved public expenditures and medium‑term fiscal projections.
