Mexico urged to diversify economy and reform trade dependencies

Political analyst Gabriel Guerra Castellanos has advised that Mexico must diversify its economy to reduce its excessive dependence on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Guerra Castellanos characterized the United States as an unreliable partner and suggested that Mexico needs to reinvent its economic policy to address declining growth. He noted that recent tensions involving Canada are a logical consequence of aggressive U.S. policies toward its partners.

Simultaneously, agricultural leaders in Mexico are raising concerns regarding inequality within the current trade framework. José Socorro Jacobo Femat, leader of the Central de Organizaciones Campesinas y Populares (COCyP), stated that Mexican producers face significant disadvantages in negotiations. He argued that the FTA's rules favor large corporations and free investment over the legal recognition and competitive conditions required for small-scale farmers, ejidos, and indigenous communities.
