Mexico-US border customs issues disrupt trade and industry

System failures and restrictive customs policies at the Mexico-US border are causing significant disruptions to international trade and industrial production. Intermittent technical issues within the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) have paralyzed cargo movement in key border cities, including Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, and Reynosa. These failures prevented the generation of necessary customs operation documents, leading to massive congestion of freight units at major crossings like the World Trade Bridge.

Compounding these technical issues, customs restrictions preventing the passage of empty cargo units have created a structural crisis in the supply chain. A shortage of containers and equipment in regions such as Coahuila and Piedras Negras is threatening to halt major industrial operations. Specifically, Constellation Brands faces a potential total suspension of operations due to inventory saturation, while other sectors, including the automotive industry (Rassini) and various manufacturing plants, risk paralysis due to the inability to move finished goods and raw materials.

Transport associations have called for urgent intervention to establish operational mechanisms that allow for proper fiscal oversight without strangling the regional economy and employment.
