Mexico violence: Drone attacks and gunfire cause displacement and unrest
Violent incidents involving armed clashes and the use of explosive drones have been reported in different regions of Mexico, causing displacement and community terror.
In Cueramato, located in the Apatzingán municipality of Michoacán, approximately 80 people were forced to flee their homes following armed attacks and the explosion of a drone. This incident represents a new wave of forced displacement for families who had only recently returned to the area after previous bouts of violence.
In the rural area of La Cofradía, near Mazatlán, Sinaloa, residents reported a three-hour armed confrontation that included the use of drones to drop explosive devices. The violence, which occurred near the El Recodo highway, resulted in a vehicle crashing into a tree and knocking down power lines, leaving part of the community without electricity. This follows other recent violence in the same sector, including the discovery of a burned vehicle and unexploded ordnance.
