Mexico warns of SMS scams using fake traffic‑fine notices

The municipal public‑security directorate in Mexicali (DSPM) announced that scammers are sending text messages that appear to be official traffic‑fine notices. The messages originate from a phone number with the Veracruz area code (921) and contain a link to a bogus payment site. DSPM chief Luis Felipe Chan Baltazar urged residents to ignore the texts, avoid clicking the link, and report the fraud through the 089 hotline.

The Cyber Police of the State of Mexico (SSEM) issued a similar alert, describing a widespread fraud that uses fabricated speed‑ticket alerts to steal personal or financial data. The messages direct recipients to fraudulent webpages that mimic official government portals.
