Mexico water management: CEA denies political conditioning while PVEM proposes reuse

In Mexico, political and environmental discussions regarding water management are intensifying. In San Luis Potosí, Pascual Martínez Sánchez, director of the State Water Commission (CEA), denied allegations that water truck deliveries are being conditioned on support for the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM). He characterized the accusations as political attacks ahead of the 2026-2027 electoral process, asserting that water services are provided free of charge and without partisan requirements.

Meanwhile, in Mexico City, the PVEM has introduced an initiative in the local Congress to mandate the use of treated wastewater for high-consumption establishments. Led by Jesús Sesma Suárez, the proposal aims to require businesses and large-scale facilities to use treated water for non-potable tasks such as cleaning, irrigation, and general maintenance. The goal is to reduce pressure on the city's potable water supply and improve resilience against drought by closing legislative gaps regarding industrial and commercial water reuse.
