Mexico weather warnings issued amid studies on thunderstorm intensity

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) has issued warnings regarding approaching intense storms in Mexico, forecasting 72 hours of rain, hail, and wind gusts reaching up to 70 km/h.

In parallel, researchers at the UNAM Institute of Geography, led by specialist José Francisco León Cruz, are conducting studies to determine if the severity and frequency of thunderstorms in Mexico are changing over time. The research focuses on analyzing atmospheric conditions and identifying whether certain regions are experiencing more intense phenomena, such as hail, tornadoes, and heavy rainfall, compared to historical records.
