Mexico workers use 92% of vacation days but take only short breaks

A study by remote‑work platform Deel shows that Mexican employees use 92.21% of their allotted vacation days, yet most of the time is taken in brief intervals rather than extended periods. The median entitlement is 14 days per year, with 45.5% of workers using every day granted and 63% taking at least 80% of their leave.

The data, drawn from more than 1.5 million workers in 150 countries, analyzed 3,322 vacation requests from Mexico, primarily from technology firms, startups and other remote‑friendly organizations. Compared with other markets, Mexico’s usage rate exceeds the United States (85.27%), Brazil (72.47%) and India (62.97%). However, the total days offered are lower than in Brazil (30 days), Germany (26 days) and France (34 days). Natalia Jiménez, Deel’s Latin America Business Development Director, notes that “in Mexico the issue is not unused vacation – workers take almost all the days they have, but the baseline of days granted is much smaller than in other markets.”
