Mexico Youth Sports: Golf Tournament and Chess Representation Spotlight Emerging Talent

The inaugural round of the 2026 Gaby López Open was held at Club de Golf México, featuring 121 junior golfers from 11 countries. Separately, Juan Antonio Rocha, a student from the Cobach Plantel 22 in Tamuín, represented Mexico at the 36th Pan American Youth Chess Festival in Medellín, Colombia. The competition gathered over 800 participants from 28 nations. Rocha qualified by winning the national Sub‑16 championship at a camp in Monterrey and previously competed for Mexico at the Pan American Games in Peru, underscoring his status as a rising chess talent.
