Mexico's 2026 World Cup Fuels E‑Commerce Surge and Ticket Fraud Alerts

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico has triggered a sharp rise in online shopping. During Hot Sale 2026, orders jumped 207% compared with the previous year and sales volume grew 115%, with an average transaction value of $1,493 MXN across roughly 93,000 purchases. The biggest categories were football apparel – jerseys of the Mexican, Argentine, Brazilian and Spanish teams – along with collector items such as Panini albums, official balls and limited‑edition memorabilia. Technology products, especially televisions, also saw strong demand as fans prepare to watch matches at home.

At the same time, consumer‑protection officials warn that the heightened excitement around the tournament is attracting digital ticket scams. They advise shoppers to verify QR codes and ticket links from official sources, avoid public Wi‑Fi when purchasing, use a VPN in stadiums or bars, and only download apps from trusted app stores. These steps are meant to prevent fraudsters from selling counterfeit tickets or harvesting personal data during the event.
