Mexico's agrarian forums tackle agroindustry growth and water overuse

Former federal adviser Esthela Damián headed the second "Guerrero del Futuro" forum in the state of Guerrero, emphasizing agro‑industrial development, youth employment and rural peace. She called for continued investment and the inclusion of university graduates in local agricultural projects, criticizing patronage‑based approaches to farming.

In parallel, officials and organizers announced the Wirikuta Water Festival in the Altiplano Potosino region of San Luis Potosí. The event highlights the over‑exploitation of the Vanegas‑Catorce aquifer and urges stricter enforcement of the National Water Law, the Agrarian Law and Indigenous consultation rights. Participants, including Eduardo Guzmán and agrarian prosecutor Enrique Rivera Sierra, warned that CONAGUA should halt new concessions and review existing ones to protect the watershed.
