Mexico's Agriculture Ministry expands direct‑sales network for local farmers
The Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) announced an expanded national network that will use 26,939 Tiendas Bienestar stores, 12,866 milk kiosks and 29 fixed and itinerant points to sell products directly from small and medium‑scale producers. The initiative integrates the Sembrando Vida, Alimentación para el Bienestar and Leche para el Bienestar programs and aims to reduce commercial intermediaries, bring locally‑grown foods to Mexican families, and improve farm incomes.
More than 445,000 beneficiaries of Sembrando Vida, cultivating about 1.1 million hectares across 26 states, will supply at least 60 items including honey, coffee, amaranth, cacao, jams and fruit‑based snacks. Sales points are placed in public spaces, federal facilities, municipal venues, fairs and airports – notably the Mexico City International Airport terminal 1 and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport – with additional itinerant locations in the capital’s Secretariat of Bienestar building. The programme has also supported export routes such as Persian lime from Papantla to Russia and the marketing of cacao‑derived chocolate through the Bienestar network.
