Mexico's Alcohol Checkpoints Cut Road Accidents by Over 30% in Ciudad Victoria

In Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, traffic authorities say alcohol‑meter checkpoints have reduced road accidents by more than 30 % and eliminated deaths linked to drunk driving this year. Transit director Javier Córdoba González attributed the decline to strict tolerance limits – zero for motorcyclists and public‑transport operators – and rigorous enforcement of the alcohol‑driving regulation.

A separate nighttime checkpoint in Concordia, Campeche, conducted by the state security secretariat resulted in eight vehicles being impounded – four motorcycles, three cars and a truck – and several people detained for disorderly conduct after random sobriety and documentation checks, including inspections of foreign‑plate vehicles.
