Mexico's archaeological exhibitions attract thousands of visitors

The temporary exhibition Tlachtli, curated by photographer Santiago Arau Pontones, is on display at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. Featuring 24 aerial photographs, ten archaeological objects and a replica ball, it draws a visual link between ancient Mesoamerican ball courts and modern football stadiums such as Estadio Azteca. The free exhibit, open until 23 August 2026, had recorded 17,405 visitors by late July.

In Silao, Guanajuato, local collectors presented the show "Los Tesoros de Silao" to mark the city’s 489th anniversary. Organized by the Llano Grande group in partnership with the Hotel Hampton, the exhibition displayed pre‑Hispanic arrowheads, obsidian daggers, metates, figurines and other artifacts recovered from nearby communities. Educational activities were offered to schools, and organizers discussed the possible creation of a community museum to preserve the region’s heritage.
