Mexico's ASF to refer UNAM officials to court over exam irregularities

The Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF) will refer UNAM public officials to the Federal Court of Administrative Justice for alleged irregularities and omissions during the university's remote entrance exam process. The investigation follows a fraud scandal during the first large-scale online application for the 2026 undergraduate selection contest, which involved more than 158,000 applicants.

ASF head Aureliano Hernández Palacios Cardel announced that the agency has secured information repositories and computer servers belonging to the service provider, Territorium Life, S.A.P.I. de C.V., owned by Carlos Guillermo Elizondo Ancer. This precautionary seizure was conducted through a legal mechanism intended to preserve fundamental evidence for the investigation.

The auditor noted that the investigation was conducted with the cooperation of university authorities, stating that UNAM Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas requested the ASF's intervention to clarify the situation. The identified administrative responsibilities will be channeled to the court to determine appropriate sanctions for the involved officials.
