Mexico's aviation authority completes US FAA safety evaluation

Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) has announced the conclusion of an aerial safety evaluation conducted by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The assessment, part of the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program, took place from August 10 to August 14.

AFAC, which operates under Mexico's Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, stated that it addressed all auditor inquiries and provided the necessary technical evidence regarding operational safety processes and procedures. The agency expects to receive the final report within 60 days.

This evaluation is a critical follow-up to maintain Mexico's Category 1 status, which the country regained in 2023 after a two-year downgrade. The review evaluates the civil aviation authority's ability to meet international safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is part of a bilateral air transport treaty between Mexico and the United States.
