Mexico's B2B eCommerce sector faces digital lag, says CANACINTRA

Mexico's business‑to‑business (B2B) eCommerce market currently generates about $16.6 billion and is projected to reach $133 billion by 2034, representing an annual growth rate of roughly 26 %. Despite this potential, less than 10 % of B2B transactions in Mexico are digital, far behind adoption rates of 80 % in the United States and China.

In an interview, Román Bátiz, president of the eCommerce division of the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Transformación (CANACINTRA), warned that the real question is how quickly the Mexican industry can digitalise before losing competitiveness. He identified cultural resistance, lack of vision among senior management, and insufficient digital training as the main barriers, rather than budget or technical complexity.

Globally, the B2B eCommerce market is valued at $36 trillion, four times larger than consumer‑focused (B2C) online commerce. The terms B2B and B2C simply denote who the buyer is: another business or an individual consumer, respectively, and shape pricing, sales processes, and communication strategies.
