Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena launches $184 million school supply program in Yucatán
The Yucatán state government, headed by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, began distributing school supply kits under the "Bienestar en tu Escuela" program with an investment of about 184 million pesos. The kits will reach 264,349 pupils in public primary and secondary schools and include a pair of black shoes, a backpack, two unisex uniform shirts, a winter jacket and other educational materials. Distribution is slated to be completed within a month so schools have the materials before the new academic cycle starts.
The initiative is also intended to boost the local economy, creating a cash flow for more than 5,000 families who produce the backpacks, shoes and uniforms across the state. Governor Díaz Mena linked the program to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s nationwide effort that provides financial support for school essentials, describing the spending as an investment in the future of Yucatán’s children and families.
