Mexico's Chamber of Deputies officializes National Xoloitzcuintle Day

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has officially recognized the first National Xoloitzcuintle Day. The ceremony honored the ancient, hairless dog breed that was considered sacred by the Mexica people for its role in guiding souls to Mictlán.

Deputy Juan Carlos Hank Krauss led the protocolary event, describing the breed as a living symbol of Mexico’s history, spirituality, and identity. Hank Krauss, representing a family involved in the preservation of Mexican dog breeds through a specialized kennel, noted the breed's characteristics of loyalty and permanence.

Also in attendance was veterinarian Ricardo Forastieri González, director of the Caliente kennel, an organization dedicated to the preservation, reproduction, and care of the ancient breed.
