Six CJNG suspects detained in Mexico City‑Texcoco drug and weapons case

On 13 June, Mexico’s Federal Attorney General’s Office linked six alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to drug trafficking and possession of military‑grade weapons after coordinated raids in Mexico City and the municipality of Texcoco, State of Mexico. The detainees – identified as Celia Rivera Medina, Mario Fermín Carrillo Rivera, Viridiana González Pacheco, Andrés Pacheco Uribe, David Pacheco de la Rosa and Jorge Armando Franco Alva – faced charges for possession of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and illegal firearms, with judges ordering preventive imprisonment for periods ranging from one to three months while investigations continue. Authorities also seized cash, motorcycles, a vehicle, mobile phones, communications equipment and other contraband.

Separately, analysts have highlighted a broader pattern of CJNG recruiting teenagers through social‑media platforms such as TikTok, noting thousands of youths drawn into criminal activity since 2012. Critics say the federal response has been fragmented and opaque, with multiple agencies involved but no comprehensive monitoring program, raising concerns about the cartel’s continued influence on Mexico’s violence landscape.
