Mexico's CNA investigates grocery voucher and electronic payment market

The National Antitrust Commission (CNA) has launched an investigation into potential monopolistic practices within the grocery voucher and electronic payment market. The inquiry follows complaints alleging that certain market actors may have violated the Federal Economic Competition Law by limiting access for new competitors and concentrating market power.

The investigation focuses on whether dominant companies are using their position to unduly displace competitors or establish exclusive advantages in retail establishments. Because grocery vouchers are essential for families to purchase food and daily necessities, the CNA stated that the probe aims to protect competition in services used in daily life.

The investigation, identified under file DE-014-2026, is expected to last up to 120 business days, with the possibility of three extensions. The CNA clarified that the commencement of this process does not constitute proof of an infraction or a determination of responsibility for any specific company.
