Mexico's coastal regions gear up for summer tourism surge
Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez announced a security operation for Mazatlán’s summer season, covering beaches, rivers, roads, colonies and commercial centers. The plan will be reinforced by state and federal forces. Mazatlán reported an 80% hotel occupancy rate and expects the arrival of two cruise ships—Navigator of the Seas and Carnival Panorama—bringing an estimated 8,690 passengers and generating about 13.2 million pesos in economic activity.
In Tamaulipas, Tourism Secretary Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez projected 4.3 million visitors this summer, expecting a total economic impact of over 4 billion pesos. Highlights include planned marine turtle releases at Soto la Marina and Playa Miramar, coordinated beach security efforts with federal agencies, and upcoming kayak tours in El Chorrito pending local certification. The state is also finalizing hotel occupancy data to assess tourism performance.
Both regions are focusing on safety, environmental tourism experiences, and infrastructure readiness to maximize visitor numbers and economic benefits during the peak vacation period.
