Mexico's Cofepris removes over 31,000 illegal drug ads from digital platforms

The Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), together with the Mexico City security secretariats SSPC and SSC, suspended more than 31,000 illegal advertisements for medicines, dietary supplements and other health‑related products on online platforms. The operation targeted 16,819 medication ads and 7,090 supplement ads, as well as thousands of posts for health services, cosmetic procedures and medical devices. High‑demand GLP‑1 agonists and metabolic treatments such as Wegovy, Tirzepatida, Forxiga, Ozempic and Metformin were among the most frequently flagged. The majority of removals occurred on social networks: 24,275 ads on Facebook, 5,117 on Instagram and 2,500 on TikTok, plus 1,263 listings on Mercado Libre. Cofepris said the effort was enabled by ongoing collaborations with platforms like Meta, TikTok, Amazon and Google, aiming to protect consumers from misleading health claims.
