Mexico's Conagua moves to regularize water concessions in Querétaro and Oaxaca

Senator Agustín Dorantes Lámbarri met with Conagua subdirector Oscar Jovanny Zavala Gamboa to present the concerns of agricultural producers in Querétaro, urging federal support for better water access and participation in the water‑concession regularization program. Dorantes said, “Hoy nos tocó acudir a la Conagua para llevar la voz de las y los productores del campo que están preocupados por obtener, o en su caso, aprovechar mejor el agua en su producción”.

The National Water Commission’s Pacific South Basin Organization (OCPS) announced a plan to regularize expired water‑concession titles in Oaxaca and the wider Pacific South region. The one‑year window (16 July 2026 to 15 July 2027) is open to agricultural, municipal, domestic, livestock and aquaculture users, offering legal certainty and protecting the human right to water. OCPS director Julián Rubén Ríos Ángeles described the effort as “un acto de justicia social para nuestros productores y municipios del Pacífico Sur”.
