Mexico's Congress debates education talks and national political agenda
Deputy Ricardo Monreal Ávila, head of the Chamber of Deputies' political coordination board, said the legislature is not a mediator in the education dialogue involving the Ministry of Public Education, the Interior Ministry and the teachers’ union CNTE. He emphasized that only the executive branch conducts the negotiations and that Congress’ role is limited to budgeting and legislation.
In a separate session of the Permanent Commission, deputies from Morena, PAN, PT, PRI and MC discussed the "national political situation." They highlighted high presidential approval, record foreign investment, social programmes for seniors, students, women and indigenous communities, and noted the presence of the National Guard on major roads. The meeting also raised concerns about a ten‑year rise in lethal violence, citing a 68% increase in homicides and numerous assassinations of local officials.
Both discussions reflect ongoing congressional scrutiny of the federal government's policies on education, security and social welfare.
