Mexico's Green Party doubts new parties PAZ and Somos MX will survive past 2027 election

Manuel Muñoz Cano, state leader of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) in Tamaulipas, warned that the two newly registered national parties, PAZ and Somos MX, are unlikely to retain their registration after the 2027 elections, citing their lack of organizational structure and the electoral threshold of 3%.

In the Chamber of Deputies, PVEM‑led members of the Environment and Natural Resources Commission, chaired by Deputy Gabriela Benavides Cobos, met with Semarnat officials to review a draft general law on animal welfare, a legislative response to the 2024 constitutional amendment that recognized animals as sentient beings.

PVEM officials in Michoacán, including state leader Ernesto Núñez and Morelia coordinator Cristian Jaramillo, called on the municipal government to expand pothole‑repair brigades after heavy rains damaged city streets, urging rapid response to citizen reports.

In Aguascalientes, Katia Villalobos announced her candidacy for the Coordination General of the party’s Guardianes Verdes network, reaffirming her commitment to the PVEM and dispelling rumors of a party switch, while outlining plans for reforestation, public‑space clean‑ups and animal‑wellness initiatives across the state.
