Mexico's Profeco launches probe into ViX World Cup 2026 streaming failures
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) opened a formal investigation after numerous users reported that the ViX streaming platform failed to transmit World Cup 2026 matches. Issues were first noted during the Mexico‑South Korea game and later during the Colombia‑Uzbekistan match, prompting 36 formal complaints. ViX attributed the outage for subscribers accessing the service via Amazon Prime Video to an erroneous signal entered by Amazon, which disrupted the feed from 20:05 to 20:57 local time. The platform said that about 6 million viewers who used ViX directly saw the match without problem. Profeco has asked ViX for a detailed report on the technical cause, the number of affected subscribers, compensation plans and any corrective measures, warning that severe violations could result in fines. ViX has pledged to cooperate with Profeco and Amazon to avoid future failures and to compensate affected premium customers.
