Mexico's Supreme Court suspends political trial of Nuevo León Governor Samuel García

The Mexican Supreme Court (SCJN) issued a suspension that bars the Nuevo León state Congress from voting to remove or disqualify Governor Samuel García while his constitutional challenge proceeds. The court ruled that the political trial may continue its investigative stages, but no final resolution may be adopted until the controversy is adjudicated. The suspension was granted by Justice María Estela Ríos, echoing an earlier provisional order from a federal district judge that similarly halted any decisive action.

The trial was launched by the state anti‑corruption commission after allegations that public resources were funnelled to companies linked to the governor's relatives. García filed an amparo alleging procedural flaws and lack of evidence, prompting the SCJN to intervene to prevent potential irreparable damage to the continuity of his elected mandate.

The court emphasized that the measure does not stop the legislative inquiry itself, only the execution of any determination that would separate the governor from office or render him ineligible, preserving the status quo pending a final ruling.
