Mexico's economy shows mixed signals as peso strengthens and beer output falls

The Mexican peso continued to rally on August 5, 2026, with the dollar quoted at 17.24 pesos and the euro at 19.91 pesos. In the United States, McDonald’s sales have stalled, while Mexico’s beer industry reported a 2.7% decline in production, prompting forecasts of flat growth compared with 2025.

Domestic commerce, services and tourism all grew faster than Mexico’s overall GDP, supporting the country’s economic recovery, according to Concanaco. Guanajuato secured the highest credit rating from S&P Global, reinforcing its fiscal stability. Nissan carried out a large‑scale tree‑planting campaign in Aguascalientes and the State of Mexico as part of its environmental strategy. Meanwhile, Cuitláhuac Pérez, CEO of Maindsteel and Grupo MAEN, announced a move into the mezcal market. Infrastructure upgrades included the inauguration of a megastructure overpass on the Potosí Circuit in San Luis Potosí, projected to serve up to 200 000 users, and Querétaro entered the top ten in wastewater‑treatment initiatives.
