Mexico's Education Secretary Denies Bribe Over 800 Million Peso Transfer to CNTE

Education Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo said the federal government did not bribe the CNTE’s Section 22 with 800 million pesos to end the teachers’ protest. He explained the money comes from the education budget and is intended to address educational lag in states such as Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero, funding telesecundarias, primary and preschool schools, as well as creating and recategorising teaching posts.

Transparency Mexicana director Eduardo Bohórquez demanded clarification on the origin and use of the 800 million pesos, arguing that taxpayers deserve to know whether the funds were a political bargaining tool. He warned that the practice of allocating such resources strengthens the CNTE’s negotiating power and called for full transparency about the allocation.
