Mexico's Electoral Court removes over 90,000 Morena party memberships

Mexico’s highest electoral tribunal, the TEPJF, ordered the removal of 93,742 memberships from the ruling Morena party after determining that the registrations were duplicated with twelve citizen groups seeking party status. The court recognized the duplicated entries in favor of organizations such as Construyendo Sociedades de Paz A.C. (32,776 members), México Tiene Vida A.C. (19,465), and Personas Sumando en 2025 A.C. (17,481), strengthening their chances of registering as national parties.

In a related ruling, the Tribunal Electoral del Distrito Federal (Trife) invalidated about 110,000 Morena affiliations because they lacked the required printed form with a handwritten signature and photograph of the individual. The decision highlighted that Morena had used a digital app to collect signatures without proper authorization from the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE). The INE is scheduled to consider reforms to Morena’s statutes that could legitimize future digital affiliations, though existing memberships remain under review.
