Mexico's Electoral Court Upholds PAN Gender Parity Rules and Allows Leader Romero's Re‑election

Mexico's Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF) confirmed amendments to the National Action Party (PAN) statutes that establish gender parity and alternation for the presidency of the party's National Executive Committee (CEN). The rule mandates that at least every six years a woman must hold the CEN presidency, with specific provisions for open or exclusive gender ballots depending on the incumbent’s sex and re‑election status.

The court also validated a reform that permits the current PAN leader, Jorge Romero, to seek re‑election. While the magistrates affirmed that the amendment complies with parity principles, a dissenting judge warned that women candidates may still face unequal conditions in the next election cycle.
