Mexico's Electoral Service Launches Nationwide Recruitment Contest

The Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) announced the 2026 public competition for the Servicio Profesional Electoral Nacional (SPEN), opening 176 vacant positions across 28 local electoral bodies. The contest, part of a broader effort to professionalize electoral staff, follows merit‑based criteria and aims to fill technical and operational roles for upcoming elections.

In Tlaxcala, the Instituto Tlaxcalteca de Elecciones (ITE) opened a separate call for two SPEN positions in the Coordinations of Normative Systems and Citizen Participation. Registration for the national contest runs from 7 to 14 August, with a knowledge exam on 19 September, document verification from 10 to 16 October, a psychometric test on 7 November, and interviews beginning 18 November. Final results are expected in November, with appointments scheduled for early December.

Overall, the SPEN system comprises 774 posts; as of 17 July 2026, 585 are occupied and 189 remain vacant. The 2026 competition seeks to strengthen the capacity of electoral institutions through transparent, merit‑based hiring.
