Mexico's Folk Ballet Programs Showcase Regional Heritage

The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) reaffirmed its cultural leadership by sending director Carlos Moctezuma and a troupe of more than 120 participants to the 2026 Summer Courses of the Escuela del Ballet Folklórico de México in Mexico City. Running from July 20 to August 7, the program taught regional dances of Tamaulipas—including picota, huapango, polka and redova—and featured a special class for the First Company of the Ballet Folklórico de México.

In Tabasco, the Águilas Danzantes ballet of the Telesecundaria Carlos A. Madrazo in Jalpa de Méndez continues a 30‑year tradition of folk dance education. Directed by Leticia Domínguez Santiago, the 25‑member group draws students from nearby communities, promotes discipline and cultural identity, and recently performed at the Festival Cultural Ceiba 2026 with traditional Tabasco costumes.
