Rubén Rocha Moya stays at home; Mexico says no US‑ordered protection or extradition proof

Former Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya, who took a licence from office, is the subject of a U.S. Department of Justice request for provisional detention and extradition on alleged drug‑cartel ties. President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters “el señor está en su casa” and said the government does not protect anyone without evidence, calling the claim that Rocha is hidden by the military “absolutely false”. The federal Cabinet of Security echoed this, stating there is “no operativo para ocultar a ningún gobernador”. The Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores announced it will make public the documents related to the U.S. extradition requests while keeping diplomatic notes reserved for five years. The Fiscalía General de la República confirmed it has not received sufficient proof to meet Mexico’s legal threshold, saying “no ha habido pruebas, concretamente para responder en el sentido del parámetro probatorio mínimo”. Rocha himself posted that he remains in his Culiacán home without federal protection and that his licence was taken to cooperate with the investigation.
