Mexico's Foreign Secretary Velasco Holds Security, Migration and Trade Call with US Official Marco Rubio

Mexican Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez said he spoke by phone with U.S. official Marco Rubio for about 30 minutes, covering cooperation on security, migration and trade. The discussion focused on joint actions against fentanyl trafficking, the situation of roughly 14,000 detained Mexican nationals in U.S. facilities, and progress on the United States‑Mexico‑Canada trade pact (USMCA). Velasco announced a follow‑up meeting in Mexico City on Friday that will include senior officials from both governments and U.S. ambassador Ronald Johnson.

He emphasized Mexico's humanitarian approach to migrants rejected at the northern border, noting coordination with the National Institute of Migration to provide temporary assistance and explore voluntary return options.
