Mexico's government proposes permanent commission to negotiate CNTE teachers' demands

Mexico's interior secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez announced after a six‑hour meeting with the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) that the government will create a permanent commission to examine the teachers' proposals legally and technically. The proposal was presented alongside education secretary Mario Delgado and Issste director Martí Batres, and aims to move the dialogue toward a new agreement, with the government awaiting a positive response from the union.

The agenda includes a democratic, school‑by‑school consultation to advance an education reform that would eliminate the USICAMM body and repeal the 2007 ISSSTE pension law, while establishing a new labor relationship that safeguards teachers' rights. The CNTE has signaled willingness to consider the government's offers, and the administration suggested using the opening match of the 2026 World Cup at the Azteca Stadium to highlight the demands internationally.
