PVEM expands membership and election plans for 2027 races in Mexico

The Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) is intensifying its political preparation ahead of the 2027 elections. In Tamaulipas, party secretary of organization Esmeralda Peña Jácome reported that the party’s membership has reached 40,000 and set a target of 50,000 through the “Ruta Verde” outreach program, aiming to present 100 % green candidates and eventually contest the state governorship.

State leader Manuel Muñoz Cano reiterated the party’s commitment to follow the national coalition agreement with Morena and the PT, emphasizing strategic unity and careful candidate selection after losing its legislative seats when members switched to Morena.

In Jalisco, the PVEM announced it will run alone in the 2027 local elections, citing a conflict with Morena over congressional leadership while maintaining the national alliance.

Sonora saw the appointment of Manuel Ignacio “Maloro” Acosta as state president, who confirmed the continued alliance with Morena and noted a membership base exceeding 20,000.

In Michoacán, PVEM state coordinator Ernesto Núñez Aguilar expressed confidence in advancing through Morena’s internal poll for the coordination of the “Defensa de la Cuarta Transformación,” citing internal survey results that place him at 13‑14 points.

These moves reflect the party’s broader strategy to strengthen its grassroots presence and position itself competitively across multiple Mexican states ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
