Mexico's Highway 57 reports 82% drop in transport theft and 125 serious accidents in 2025

In 2025, the stretch of Highway 57 in the state of San Luis Potosí recorded 125 traffic incidents, resulting in 28 deaths and 95 injuries. The main causes were head‑on collisions, side impacts and vehicles leaving the road, involving private cars, freight trucks and heavy vehicles.

Separately, municipal authorities in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, said that coordinated actions with federal and state security agencies reduced robbery of auto‑transport vehicles on the same Federal Highway 57 by 82% during the year. A new protocol and joint patrols were credited for the decline, though authorities warned that incidents could recur and traffic may be temporarily halted for investigations.
