Pope John Paul II conducted five visits to Mexico, beginning in 1979 during the presidency of José López Portillo. His subsequent trips in 1990, 1993, 1999, and 2002 involved various Mexican presidents, including Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Ernesto Zedillo, and Vicente Fox. During these visits, he reinforced religious devotion, such as the canonization of Juan Diego, and emphasized themes of faith, unity, and family values.
