Mexico's Hot Sale 2026 sees record e‑commerce growth and cyber‑fraud surge
The Hot Sale shopping event in Mexico runs from May 25 to June 2, 2026. Organisers expect sales of roughly 50 billion pesos during the 10‑day period, contributing to an annual e‑commerce market of about 941 billion pesos that now accounts for 17.7% of retail sales. More than 77 million Mexican consumers are expected to shop online, with over 700 brands taking part, and analysts forecast a 25% increase in overall revenue compared with the previous year.
Cyber‑crime experts warn that the sales rush creates a fertile environment for fraud. Using artificial‑intelligence tools, criminals aim to generate between 500 million and 1.5 billion pesos in illicit gains, and they expect a 500% jump in attack volume, potentially resulting in up to eight million fraud attempts. Tactics include fake promotional sites, QR‑code “quishing” scams that redirect victims to malicious pages, and counterfeit delivery packages that lure users into revealing banking data.
At the same time, the appliance segment is emerging as a top growth driver. White‑goods such as refrigerators, washing machines and dryers featuring energy‑efficient inverter technology are in high demand, as are smart kitchen devices like air fryers, connected coffee makers and robotic cleaners. Consumers are increasingly evaluating energy labels and remote‑control capabilities, reflecting a broader shift toward smart‑home investments during the discount period.
