Mexico vs Ecuador World Cup match triggers extensive security and transport measures in CDMX

Ahead of the Mexico‑Ecuador round‑of‑16 match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, authorities in Mexico City imposed a series of safety and mobility actions. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced she would watch the game with Mexico City mayor Clara Brugada and sent “much luck and strength” to the team. A “ley seca” bans alcohol sales in central districts from 15:00 June 30 to 07:00 July 1, with officials reporting the seizure of roughly 40 000 cans and 500 bottles and 30 citations. Public transport was extended: Metro, Metrobús, RTP and Light Rail run until 01:00 July 1 on lines serving the stadium and surrounding areas. An operation of about 15 300 police officers, supported by municipal, federal and military units, secured the stadium, the FIFA Fan Fest at the Zócalo, and the Reforma‑Angel de la Independencia corridor. Similar security deployments were organized in San Luis Potosí, relying on 150 local officers. These measures aim to prevent disturbances and ensure orderly celebrations after the match.
