Mexico's IMSS opens new childcare centers in Veracruz and summer program in Oaxaca

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) will complete four new Centers of Education and Childcare (CECI) in the southern state of Veracruz in 2026. The facilities, located in Córdoba, Jáltipan, Tres Valles and Coatzacoalcos, will each serve about 110 children from 43 days to four years old and are part of a national plan to build 1,000 CECIs, with an estimated investment of 50 million pesos per center. The project was promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum and IMSS director‑general Zoé Robledo to improve early childhood development and to enable more women to participate in the labour market.

In the state of Oaxaca, IMSS has opened registration for the "Imparable 2026" summer recreational course, running from 27 July to 17 August. The program, aimed at children aged 6‑14, offers sports, arts, cultural activities and health education for up to 40 participants. It is open to both insured and uninsured families for a modest recovery fee, and requires standard documentation such as birth certificates and health cards. The course will be held at the Centro de Seguridad Social Oaxaca on Heroica Escuela Naval Militar No. 503.
