Mexico's IMSS says digital Tarjetón not required for retirees' pension payments

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) issued an official clarification to millions of pensioners and retirees after false messages circulated online claiming that a digital Tarjetón Card was mandatory to keep receiving pension deposits. IMSS affirmed that pension payments are guaranteed by law and are not conditioned on any new digital procedure, and warned the public not to fall for fraud attempts that seek personal or banking data.

The institute also explained that the Tarjetón Digital is an optional electronic tool that lets users consult payslips, view deductions, download documents and update personal data online. While useful for active workers, retirees with high incomes, multiple pensions, or loan obligations, registration is voluntary and does not affect the right to receive pensions.
