Mexico's INALI Opens 2026 Indigenous Language Comic Competition

The Secretariat of Culture of the Mexican government, through the National Institute of Indigenous Languages (INALI), has launched the 2026 Comic in Indigenous Languages competition. The call invites Mexican citizens who are proficient speakers or have heritage in any national indigenous language to submit original graphic‑novel works written entirely in an indigenous language. Entries may be submitted individually or as a collective, with a designated representative for groups. Submissions must be digital, can be created with traditional or digital techniques, but the use of artificial intelligence is prohibited. Registration remains open until 17:59 CST on 10 August 2026. Results will be announced on 12 October 2026 on INALI’s website and social media, with an award ceremony scheduled for November 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen multilingualism, promote linguistic diversity, and encourage the preservation and revitalisation of Mexico’s indigenous languages through graphic storytelling.
