Mexico's Independence Day celebrations spotlight Charro Fest and traditional menu guide

Mexico's annual Independence Day festivities will include the third edition of the Charro Fest in Mexico City on September 5. The event, organized by the Asociación Nacional de Charros (ANC), will be held at the Lienzo Charro de Constituyentes and feature more than 100 charros competing in nine traditional charrería disciplines. Gerardo Luis Castillo, director general and founder of Charro Fest, said the goal is to broaden public awareness of the national sport, while ANC president Óscar Santiago Ferrer highlighted its UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status.

In parallel, a culinary guide outlines a four‑course menu for the night of the Grito, recommending lighter appetizers such as esquites with epazote, a main course like pozole or chiles en nogada, refreshing citrus‑based beverages, and a balanced dessert. The guide advises against serving multiple heavy dishes simultaneously to ensure guests can enjoy the celebration without digestive discomfort.
