Mexico's INE registers two new national parties for 2027 elections

The Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) approved the registration of two new political parties for Mexico's 2027 federal elections. Construyendo Sociedades de Paz (PAZ) and Personas Sumando en 2025, known as “Somos México,” met the required number of valid affiliations and district assemblies and will receive public funding of roughly 84 million pesos each beginning 1 July 2026.

The INE’s Council General voted unanimously to admit PAZ and gave a narrow majority to approve Somos México, imposing a condition that the party change its name, emblem and colour to avoid voter confusion. Three other organizations—México Tiene Vida, Que Siga la Democracia and Interacción y Empatía para Todos—were denied registration after the Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera identified financial irregularities and procedural violations.

INE officials stressed that the decisions were based on technical and legal criteria, not political considerations. Analysts note the new parties could fragment the opposition vote and alter the dynamics of the upcoming elections.
