Mexico's INE blocks registration of Que Siga la Democracia party

The National Electoral Institute (INE) voted to deny registration to the political grouping Que Siga la Democracia, citing a Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF) report that documented alleged financial irregularities, including resource triangulation through shell companies linked to its president Edgar Garza. Council members also highlighted falsified signatures, inconsistencies in affiliation records, and unreported expenditures as reasons to reject the party.

At the same session, the INE approved two new national parties—PAZ, backed by former Partido Encuentro Social leaders, and Somos México (originally Marea Rosa), which must modify its name, acronym and colors to avoid voter confusion. Both parties will become operational on 1 July 2026 and will receive public financing allocated for registered parties. The council also rejected México Tiene Vida, a faith‑based group, over foreign funding concerns. The decisions reflect heightened scrutiny of party financing and the role of the UIF in safeguarding electoral integrity.
