Mexico's INE creates working group to combat political violence against women

Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) has approved the creation of a Working Group dedicated to the prevention and attention of political violence against women based on gender (VPMRG). The group will operate under specific guidelines established for the 2026-2031 period.

As a multidisciplinary body, the group is tasked with monitoring complaints related to VPMRG, coordinating preventive actions to avoid the dispersion of institutional efforts, and fostering internal coordination among various departments. The initiative aims to ensure that women can exercise their political-electoral rights in environments free from violence.

Iliana Araceli Hernández Gómez, head of the Technical Unit for Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, stated that this move fulfills a General Council agreement to create a long-term institutional planning tool. This tool will integrate actions and projects developed by the INE in collaboration with local public organisms and political parties.
