Mexico's INE earmarks nearly 4 billion pesos for 2027 election operations

The National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico has projected a budget of 3,948,471,536 pesos – almost 4 billion – to cover the operational costs of the 2027 federal and local elections. The proposal allocates 2,380,841,144 pesos to the institute’s central offices and 1,567,630,392 pesos to the state, local and district boards that will coordinate the voting process across the country, including in states such as Tlaxcala. The estimate excludes personnel salaries, party financing and the Institutional Projects Portfolio, which will be added later. The budget is based on an assumed 3 % inflation rate and an exchange rate of 18.60 pesos per US dollar, following guidelines from the Treasury. For reference, INE’s 2024 operating budget was 22.322 billion pesos, while its total budget for the current year stands at 14 billion pesos.
